The mission of PLISF is not only to provide funding for Pitt Law students to take public
interest summer internships, but to also know about the many different facets of practice
in this area. Therefore, in addition to Auction, PLISF hosts several events throughout the
year to increase awareness and participation in PLISF and public interest law.
These events are intended to provide students with information about the opportunities in public interest
law, both in the Pittsburgh area and throughout the country. These events are also intended to
foster a sense of community both among PLISF members and with our faculty, staff, and alumni.
PLISF holds regular meetings, provides student mentorship to foster networking among
public interest students, and arranges charitable outings in the community, as well
as hosting several larger events:
Game Night
- An evening of food, drinks, fun with games of all kinds including our epic Pong Tournament
- Our second-biggest scholarship fundraiser, Game Night is held annually every fall and also
serves to introduce new students to PLISF
- The 2015 Game Night was held on October 15th and we raised approximately $300 towards scholarships
Alumni Happy Hour
- PLISF's Alumni Happy Hour recognizes our esteemed alumni's past contribution and
ongoing commitment to PLISF and the students who benefit from its programs
- This event also allows PLISF members to connect with our alumni in a
casual setting to discuss everything from shared professor experiences to career advice
- This year's Alumni Happy Hour is scheduled for Thursday, February 4 from 5:30 to 7:30, at a downtown
location yet to be determined
Faculty Luncheon
- PLISF's Faculty Luncheon is a way for us to thank the Pitt Law faculty and administration
for continually supporting us in our efforts to encourage student interest public interest.
It also serves as a way for us to commemorate the efforts of professors and staff and show our
appreciation for helping to make each upcoming auction a great success.
- The Faculty Luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm in the Alcoa Room
Career Panel
- A question and answer session where lawyers practicing public interest
law from various firms and organizations around Pittsburgh share their
experience with students
- This year's Career Panel is scheduled for Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 12:00 pm
LRAP Panel
- An information session about Loan Repayment Assistance Programs (LRAP)
where members of the Pitt Law Financial Aid team are joined by representatives
from the area's Bar Associations to discuss the requirements and application procedures
associated with programs that help lawyers in public interest jobs repay their student loans
- This year's LRAP Panel is scheduled for Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 12:00 pm
